ccording to Worcester court records, the suspected Worcester killer threatened his girlfriend with a gun the night before the I-190 standoff. Felix J. Rivera of Worcester had an arrest warrant filed in Central District Court hours before allegedly shooting a guy on Heroult Road.
He was charged with domestic abuse and aggravated kidnapping, among other things, according to court records. Before being arrested, Rivera, 41, of 660 Main St., allegedly went to 32 Heroult Road and shot Yubar Perez. He died of his wounds. Rivera shot himself in the head about 90 minutes later, when police were surrounding him on nearby Interstate 190. He was quickly proclaimed dead.
The incident on I-190 halted traffic in both directions, causing considerable delays and generating a lot of attention. On Thursday, police revealed the identities of both men. The motivation for Rivera’s suspected shooting of Perez is unclear.
According to court papers, officers rushed to a known address on Tuesday night after a woman said that her boyfriend, Rivera, had pointed a revolver at her head numerous times Monday night, threatening to murder her. According to court records, Rivera reportedly used the revolver to prevent her from leaving the premises.
The victim claims Rivera threatened her, “If you call the cops, you will be the first one to die.” Rivera and the victim had been dating for around nine months, according to records. Rivera was wanted on allegations of aggravated kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, witness intimidation, and threatening to commit a crime, namely murder. Rivera was also charged with strangulation or suffocation and assault with a deadly weapon in a separate instance back in August.
