Dennis Lee Proffer, death – Dennis Lee Proffer, 77, of Grenada, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, with his beloved daughters and sister by his side. Born on June 29, 1947, Dennis lived a life full of vibrancy, surrounded by family, friends, and an endless supply of stories that brought smiles and laughter to all who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his three loving daughters: Denise (Jim) Butler of Celina, Texas; Ricki Jean (Jason) Hardin of Grenada, Mississippi; and Amber (Chris) Dungan of Grenada, Mississippi. His cherished grandchildren—Dylan (Haley) Gretchokoff of Pilot Point, Texas; Luke Hardin of Grenada, Mississippi; and Hayden and Savannah Dungan of Grenada, Mississippi—will remember him fondly for his quick wit and endless love.
He also leaves behind his five siblings: Larry (Judy) Proffer of Hixson, Tennessee; Suzanne (Doug) Hensel of Lodi, California; Earl Earley of Southaven, Mississippi; Richard (Sherry) Wells, Jr. of Gulfport, Mississippi; and his youngest sister, Vicki Earley Mason, also of Southaven, Mississippi. Dennis’s legacy will continue through his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who were all deeply touched by his presence in their lives.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Grace Proffer of Grenada, Mississippi, Dennis was shaped by a life of love, hard work, and resilience. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran, carrying the values of honor and service throughout his life. After his military service, Dennis pursued success in the business world, owning a variety of enterprises, including restaurants, lounges, and a tile and carpeting business. His entrepreneurial spirit mirrored his unique personality—bold, determined, and full of life.
Known for his charm, sharp humor, and ability to command attention in any room, Dennis could have you laughing one moment and fighting mad the next with just a few words. He loved playing the guitar and spent many happy hours in his favorite local spots, where he was always ready with a story or joke. His presence in the community will be sorely missed, but the memories he created with his family and friends will continue to bring comfort and joy.
Though his passing brings great sorrow, Dennis Lee Proffer’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Memorial service plans remain private, in keeping with the wishes of his family
