Dub Wood, Death – Dub “W.C.” Wood, born on October 27, 1942, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the age of 81. He was the cherished son of William Clifton Wood and Mildred “McCartney” Wood, both of whom preceded him in death. Dub’s siblings, Donald Wood, Ellen Stewart, and Ginni Yeargain, along with his in-laws, Frank and Lorene Straub, also preceded him in death.
Dub is survived by his devoted wife, Mary “Straub” Wood, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 56 years, having spent 62 years together. Their love and dedication to one another were central to his life. Together, they raised three daughters—Carol (Chuck) Wofford, Ashley (Brian) Sessums, and Lisa (Derek) Exum—each of whom grew up in a home filled with laughter and love. Dub’s legacy extends through his grandchildren: Brandon (Kaitlyn) Wofford, Brad Wofford, Blake (Whitney) Sessums, Kaley Sessums, Matthew (Kendall) Exum, and Wil Exum. His joy further multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Harlow, Harris, and Harlyn Wofford, Baylor Hart, and Brantley Sessums. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Jami (Kent) Bridger.
A 1961 graduate of Dixie High School, Dub found his calling working with Foremost/Turner/Prairie Farms, where he dedicated over 50 years of his life, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Dub was known for his sharp sense of humor, constantly bringing joy to others with his playful nature and well-timed jokes. His family and friends were the most important parts of his life, and he always made sure to spend time with them, creating lasting memories full of laughter.
Dub’s family will honor his life with a graveside funeral service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. His beloved grandchildren will serve as pallbearers, while honorary pallbearers will include Evan Coffell, Chuck Davis, Bedford Little, Tom Wofford, and Dub’s family from the dairy industry.
In tribute to Dub’s lifelong dedication to children’s welfare, the family kindly requests that memorial gifts be made to children’s hospitals, local FFA organizations, and the 4-H Foundation, ensuring that his memory continues to support the causes he deeply cared about.
Dub’s legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community will live on through those who were fortunate enough to know him.
