Missing Person: 67- Year-Old Islwyn Owen Farmer From in Gwynedd Found Dead in a Slurry Tank After Reported Missing
An inquest has heard that a Welsh farmer who passed away ‘unexpectedly’ last week was discovered dead in a slurry tank after going missing.
On the evening of September 4, it was reported that Islwyn Owen, 67, a farmer in the Gwynedd community of Llanycil, close to Bala, had vanished.
He was reported missing, but his body was discovered in a farm slurry tank ninety minutes later.
The Wednesday inquiry into his death was postponed so that additional research could get underway.
“I have reasonable cause to suspect that his death was unnatural,” stated coroner Kate Robertson.
“Sadly, Mr Owen was found in a slurry tank, and confirmed dead by paramedics,” she stated.
A local council member told the BBC last week that the community was “shocked” by his passing.
Mr. Owen was called a “conscientious and busy farmer” by Llanuwchllyn ward councillor Alan Jones Evans.
“I was a neat farmer, and that was his world intact,” he remarked, describing his existence in agriculture. “Islwyn was well-known to all,” he remarked.
“I would like to send Margaret, his widow, my condolences. Islwyn has a solid reputation in the community and beyond for agriculture.
“He was a familiar face at every agricultural show and society in the whole area, and this news is a loss to the local area.”
According to police, they were collaborating with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to gain a deeper understanding of the events that preceded the incident.
It follows the release of data by the safety agency demonstrating that farming maintains the lowest safety record of any industry
