Greg Malouf Death: I regret to inform you of the death of my brother, Greg Malouf, who departed from us in Dubai only three days ago. In addition to being a Michelin-starred chef who transformed contemporary Middle Eastern cuisine, Greg was also a remarkable man who cooked for celebrities such as David Cameron at his Brexit dinner, Bill Gates on his 75th birthday, and Paris Hilton on her 35th. His skill, commitment, and inventiveness made a lasting impression on the food industry and made a great deal of people happy with his cuisine.
Greg was more than simply his accomplishments to those of us fortunate enough to have known him; he was a kind, giving man who was always willing to share a meal and a tale. Dinner parties felt at home in your creatively decorated houses. That was a renowned Salmon Kibbeh Nayyeh. And who knew you could pair Reblochon with Kalamata olives? Of course you did. Upon my initial visit, I inadvertently entered your bedroom in search of the restroom and discovered magnificent copper pots resting on your bed.
You were a culinary enthusiast at heart. a journey to Lebanon during which we became friends over your endless cooking and Massaya’s wines. You insisted on purchasing me a seasonal fruit and vegetable calendar after I saw it. In my kitchen, it remains permanently framed. The most spectacular restaurant launch ever, Cle, where Paris Hilton and Khloe Kardashian are of no concern. Or the effortless old-fashioned Dom Perignon. You were interested in that, after all. But people mistook your food so often. Because you had the guts to try Lebanese food and, with a few skillful adjustments, invented a totally new cooking technique that permanently changed “Middle Eastern” cuisine. You were not just the master of flavor, but also of Middle Eastern cuisine.
Even though you are no longer with us, your legacy lives on through all of the chefs you have trained, including @trotskie and @bethanykehdy. I toast to you and your loved ones. I appreciate you being who you are, fellow Arian. You will always be missed by me. May the angels guard you until we meet again. Gutted I won’t see you next week. Samantha
