Tyrone Hendrix And Isiah Anthony Death, Obituary, Shooting – Authorities in Birmingham have released the names of two men who were tragically killed in separate shootings just hours apart on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Isiah Tyson Anthony, 26, and Tyrone Dewayne Hendrix, 27, according to Birmingham police.
The first shooting occurred around 5 p.m. on Laurel Avenue S.W., where Anthony was found unresponsive. Family members say Anthony was expecting his first child in the coming months, making the loss especially heartbreaking. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at the scene.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade of the Birmingham Police Department reported that the preliminary investigation suggests Anthony was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown suspect shortly before he was fatally shot. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Shortly after Anthony’s body was discovered, another person arrived at UAB Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, though police are not yet sure if this was related to the Laurel Avenue shooting.
Meanwhile, multiple family members and loved ones gathered near the crime scene on Laurel Avenue, anxiously waiting for confirmation that Anthony was the victim. His sister and the mother of his unborn child were among those mourning, visibly distraught and praying as they awaited official word.
Just a few hours later, around 10:40 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at Brother Bryan Park on Magnolia Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Hendrix in the northwest corner of the park, near 21st Street and 10th Avenue South. According to witnesses, shots rang out, and people were seen fleeing the park, but no one reported witnessing the actual shooting. Sgt. Wade mentioned that the individuals seen running from the park may have been the suspects, but no arrests have been made in connection with either shooting.
These two incidents mark Birmingham’s 114th and 115th homicides for 2024. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable, while two victims were wounded in previous years and died in 2024. Jefferson County has recorded 147 homicides this year, including the 115 within Birmingham. The community has been left reeling from the violence, with many grieving the loss of young lives cut short. The police continue their investigations, and anyone with information about either shooting is urged to come forward.
