Heartbroken friends from Nantwich have set up a page to help pay for the funeral of 16-year-old Jonty Evans.
A 16-year-old boy went missing in the Mill Island area late Friday night.
His body was found by police river search teams in Weaver on Sunday night.
Tributes have been paid to a popular teenager from Buddington. It is not yet known what happened to him and the police are investigating.
Now friends and family have set up a crowdfunding page to fund his funeral and have raised more than £1,200 in just the first few hours.
His aunt and uncle Angela and Kevin, who set up the page, said: “I’m raising £4,000 for a funeral to give Jonty Evans a chance to send his children away.
“Unfortunately, Jonty is no longer with us. He was taken away from his family very soon, he didn’t grow up, he didn’t live long.
“Johnty was a beautiful boy who loved his family and many friends very much.
“We want to ease the stress and anxiety of the family at this time. We thank you for anything you can give, it is greatly appreciated. “
John’s brother Jason also started a Facebook group called “I love you Jonty x” where many people left their messages.
Cheshire East Council say they will have youth support workers on the streets of Nanwich near the leisure center every evening this week until Friday between 6-9pm.
They will offer support to any young people affected by Jonty’s death and signpost them to other support services.
We have contacted Cheshire Police for an update on the police investigation into Jonty’s death.
Weaver cordoned off the banks of the river, where his body is believed to have been found.
