On Tuesday, a rape case was filed against Malayalam movie star Nivin Pauly. The woman who filed the complaint claimed that he sexually abused her at a hotel in Dubai in the previous year after promising her a role in a film. The complaint was filed after Pauly allegedly made the promise to her. Those allegations have been refuted by Pauly.
In addition, the woman, who was from the Ernakulam district, mentioned five other individuals, one of whom was a producer, in her complaint. The first information report (FIR) named Pauly as the sixth accused.
Through his Instagram account, Pauly stated that the allegations were “completely false” and that he would handle the situation in a legal manner.
“I have come across a hoax news report that makes the accusation that I have abused a young lady. I would like you to be aware that this is completely false. I am more than willing to go to any lengths to demonstrate that these allegations are without foundation, and I will take any and all measures that are required to bring those responsible to light. Regarding your concern, I am grateful. According to what he stated in a post, “the rest will be handled legally.”
The Special Investigation Team, which was established in the wake of the publication of the Justice Hema Committee report, will conduct an investigation into the case. The special investigation team was formed to investigate sexual misconduct complaints that came from the Malayalam film industry. In the report that was published a month ago, the various challenges that women face in the industry were detailed, and it was discovered that among these challenges was widespread sexual misconduct.
According to the police, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 376 (which deals with rape). The complaint states that the incident occurred in the month of November in the year 2023.
A number of actors had come forward with allegations against some of the veterans of the Malayalam film industry in the days that followed the release of the report that included the findings of the Hema Committee. As a consequence of this, cases were filed against Mukesh, an actor and the Minister of Local Affairs for the CPI(M), as well as other notable actors such as Jayasurya, Baburaj, Siddique, and their colleagues. Ranjith, a film director, was also subject to allegations of sexual misconduct, which resulted in him resigning from his position as chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy. In addition, cases were filed against him.
