Portage Lakes Drowning: The Akron, Ohio community is mourning the death of a young boy who passed away in a drowning accident at the Portage Lakes State Park o Frida. Law enforcement agencies were called to the scene following a report of a 6-year-old in the water.
According to reports, the kid was found dead hours later. Multiple locals of the site formed search teams as they sought to locate the whereabouts of the bo. Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff, Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and multiple ambulances responded to the incident scene.
What Happened At The Portage Lakes State Park?
Authorities were called to the Portage Lakes State Park around 5 p.m., for a drowning incident. The tragic event happened at the Portage Lakes State Park on 5031 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH. Preliminary investigations determined that a young boy playing at the Upper Deck when he wandered off into the woods, his body was later found after accidentally falling into the water.

In Another Story: A woman’s body was discovered near Portage Lakes, Summit County, on Thursday morning.
The Coventry Township. The Fire Department was notified at 6:57 a.m. about a probable body in the water. When officers arrived at the 900 block of Portage Lakes Drive, they discovered the body of a female floating about 10 feet from the shore. The woman’s body was retrieved and transported to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to Chief Investigator Gary Guenther, the office has identified her as Catherine Altizer, who lived on Fig Drive less than 200 feet from the lake. He stated that her body was recognized using fingerprints; there were no evident injuries and no evidence of foul play. Coventry Fire Chief Adam Rockich said the department received a call at 6:57 a.m. about what a bystander believed to be a body in the river.
Emergency responders stopped Portage Lakes Drive between Cormany and State Mill roads, which border the North Reservoir and Long Lake Channel. They’ve since reopened. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the situation.
