Police are asking the public for help identifying an individual who stole brass railings from outside a church in Meriden.

Officers responded to St. Rose Church at 35 Center St. last Friday on the report of a larceny and learned that about $8,000 worth of brass railings had been stolen from the stairway leading to the entrance of the building, according to Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department.

McKay released a short video this week to a number of media outlets showing part of the theft. The nine-second clip shows an individual dressed in dark clothing with a hood and a face covering trying to rip a railing from the steps.

The individual falls down at one point trying to swing the partially freed railing back and forth, the video shows. The timestamp on the video indicates the theft occurred on Nov. 5 around 4:45 a.m.

McKay said investigators are hoping someone from the public can help identify the individual in the video.
