Ashlyn Jean Barse Death: The community of Blackhawk, South Dakota, is reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Ashlyn Jean Barse, lovingly known as “Boo Boo,” who passed away on August 15, 2024. Ashlyn was a vibrant and beloved member of her community, leaving behind a grieving family, including her mother Alesha, father Darin, older sister Lilly, and older brother Dakoda. Born in 2015, Ashlyn brought light and joy into the lives of everyone she encountered. She and her family moved to the scenic Black Hills, where she attended Blackhawk Elementary School before continuing her education at West Middle School. Even at a young age, Ashlyn was a force to be reckoned with, living her life with passion, courage, and an infectious zest for life.
Ashlyn’s commitment to martial arts was evident early on, as she dedicated herself to the discipline with unwavering determination. In 2019, at just four years old, she earned her black belt at Bright Path Martial Arts School, a remarkable achievement for someone so young. Her skills and dedication led her to compete in numerous taekwondo tournaments, where she stood out as a formidable competitor. One of her proudest moments was bringing home a silver medal from the United States National Championship, a testament to her hard work and talent. But Ashlyn’s athletic talents didn’t stop there. She was also a dedicated volleyball, basketball, and track athlete, excelling in every sport she pursued. Her coaches and teammates admired her for her relentless drive, sportsmanship, and the positive energy she brought to every game and practice.
Ashlyn’s love for music was another defining aspect of her life. She had a special place in her heart for artists like Drake and Zach Bryan, whose songs filled her days with joy. Whether she was dancing, singing, or creating TikTok videos, Ashlyn shared her love for music with everyone around her, spreading happiness and laughter wherever she went. Known for her playful and mischievous nature, Ashlyn had a knack for pulling off clever pranks, much to the amusement of her family and friends. Whether she was sneaking into her brother’s room to play Xbox when he wasn’t home or borrowing her sister’s clothes without asking, her antics were always in good fun, and they added an extra layer of joy to her family’s life.
Ashlyn’s confidence and charisma were evident in everything she did, from her fashion sense to her pride in her accomplishments. She wasn’t just a little girl; she was a dynamic individual with a big personality, someone who made a lasting impact on everyone she met. In the wake of this unimaginable loss, the community has rallied around Ashlyn’s family. A fundraiser has been organized by family friend Cassie Paulsen to support the Barse family during this incredibly difficult time. The fundraiser has so far raised $390 out of a $25,000 goal, with contributions pouring in from friends, neighbors, and community members eager to help ease the financial burden on the family.
