Throughout the past two years and a bit more, DJ has maintained the strength, determination, faith, and optimism that he will be able to overcome this.
Sadly, there are situations when putting forth one hundred percent effort does not guarantee the outcome you desire. Even though it has been difficult, DJ has continued to give his family the best parts of himself. He has never whined or asked “why me?” and has maintained a positive attitude during all of his scans, surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and hospital visits. We have come to the conclusion as a family that DJ has done the very best that he can, and we are so proud of his fortitude and tenacity throughout the course of these past two and a half years.
This news has left all of us in utter disbelief, but at the same time, we want what’s best for DJ, which is for him to be free from agony. In the next days, he will be transferred from the hospital to the hospice at his house. We ask that you keep Clare, Ryan, and Alex in your prayers as they go onto the next phase of their lives. We are all very appreciative and thankful for the overwhelming amount of love and support that has been shown to us over the course of the past two years. We are aware, in particular, that DJ is and would not have been able to get this far without the love and support of everyone.
We pray that DJ’s upcoming weeks are free of discomfort and that he is aware of the depth of the love that he inspires in so many people.
