Andrew Blauschild Cause of Death: We learned this morning of the passing of Andrew Blauschild, a surfer, photographer, and all-around creative, one of New York’s true originals, with sorrowful hearts.
Andrew, who was just featured in The Surfer’s Journal for his entire career, is a proud sixth generation New Yorker who was born in the Bronx in 1971. Blauschild and his lifelong buddy Joel Tudor, who frequently visits NYC and the East End, founded Kookbox in the early 2000s. The company is focused on the art of boardbuilding and features handshaped boards by notable surfers like Bill Shrosbee, Stu Kenson, Hoy Runnels, and others in addition to a wide selection of clothing.
He said to Whalebone, “Kookbox is a collaboration brand of surfers, great craftsmen, and artists/photographers.” We work with some of the top shapers and glassers in the business to create surfboards that are built traditionally. Building bespoke surfboards for surfers worldwide is an incredibly fulfilling labor of love.
