Shiree Barney Arizona Death: The sheriff’s office reported that a toddler was mauled to death by family pets in Navajo County. The event occurred on Friday, August 9, at 6:30 p.m., at a home in Aripine. “The victim was at home with several family members when she ran outside to turn off a water tap. The family pets frequently engage with the family and children. The dogs attacked the young girl for unexplained reasons, resulting in severe physical harm, according to the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.
The anonymous nine-year-old girl died despite family members’ efforts to provide medical care. “The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office-Criminal Investigation Unit and Navajo County Animal Control are investigating this tragic incident.” The sheriff’s office stated that no further information will be disclosed due to the current investigation.
Deputies believe the girl’s family raises dogs. “Our hearts go out to this family, not just here at the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, but also to the officers who responded on the street. Chief Deputy Brian Swanty of the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office stated that this is not the type of call anyone wants to be engaged with. Swanty reports that the dogs have been removed from the home and will be investigated as part of the investigation. He thinks the dogs will most likely not be returned to their family.

Shiree mother, Shirley Barney, wrote on Facebook: This past week our sweet daughter, Shiree, graduated from Earthly Angel to Heavenly Angel. For multiple years we had Cane Corso guard dogs that had been trustworthy with our children. Shiree went outside by herself for just 10 minutes to turn off the water lines and they attacked and killed her in that short time. We were completely shocked and devastated. But, we have felt God’s healing and peace through all of this.
Shiree has always been very loving, joyful, and full of light! She is such a sweet, giving, and obedient girl. She loves our Heavenly Father deeply and has a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is so valiant! We know that she is happy to be reunited with our Savior, and with her older sister. And we know that we will see her again. She is dancing in heaven now.
