“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing,” Wojcicki’s husband, Dennis Troper announced via a Facebook post. “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non small cell lung cancer.”
“Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.”
Wojcicki leaves behind her husband and four children.
Susan Wojcicki earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Literature from Harvard University in 1990, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her Master of Science in Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz was awarded in 1993. Ultimately, she graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1998 with a Master of Business Administration in Economics.
Years before Google bought YouTube, in 1999 Wojcicki joined the company as one of its original few workers. YouTube was purchased by Google for $1.65 billion in 2006.
Prior to taking over as CEO of YouTube in 2014, Wojcicki held the position of senior vice president at Google for ad products.
In 2023, Wojcicki announced her resignation from YouTube as CEO after nine years in order to concentrate on her “family, health, and personal projects.” Neal Mohan, a top advertising and product executive who joined Google in 2008, took her place as deputy. Wojcicki then had plans to join Google’s parent firm, Alphabet, as an advisor.
