Jennifer Barney has been identified as the woman who killed her two daughters and then herself in a tragic murder-suicide in Mechanic Falls.
According to a statement from the Mechanic Falls Police Department following an autopsy, Barney, 37, shot and killed her daughters, Hope West, 7, and Harmony West, 11, on Saturday before taking her own life. The deaths of the two girls have been ruled as homicides, and Barney’s death as a suicide.
Mechanic Falls Police responded to a residence on 5 Highland Avenue after receiving a report of a stolen truck parked at the location. Inside the house, officers discovered the bodies of an adult female and two children. Autopsies conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the murder-suicide.
“They were loved by everybody that knew them,” said their paternal grandfather, Wilcox. “Harmony loved unicorns. Her favorite color was pink. She loved to wear makeup and dress up. Had lots of friends at school.”
