Johnny R. Goode passed away suddenly on Friday, August 2, 2024, as confirmed by recently released statements. His sudden death has left many grieving, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him throughout his life and career.
The news of Johnny R. Goode’s demise, who served as the Disco Biscuits’ lighting designer for over 20 years, shocked the community. No immediate cause of death has been provided.
A GoFundMe page supporting Goode’s recovery previously mentioned that a severe bacterial infection had entered his body through a small cut on his hand, leading to sepsis almost overnight. This caused him to miss significant time in early 2023, during which he underwent three surgeries, had part of his finger amputated, and was on the road to recovery. In December 2023, the Disco Biscuits announced that Alex “Herm” Schneider would join the band full-time as the new lighting director.
“We’re absolutely devastated to hear of the passing of our brother and longtime Lighting Director, Johnny R. Goode,” the Disco Biscuits tweeted. “Love and prayers go out to Johnny’s family and all those who knew and cherished him. Everyone in and around The Disco Biscuits community is grieving personally, and there is a profound loss to the music and lighting industries.”
Andrew Cass, the lighting designer for The String Cheese Incident and a member of the Disco Biscuits road crew, shared a heartfelt tribute to his late friend on Instagram. He reflected on the unique bond shared within the music industry, noting the long hours, frequent travels, and rare moments of magic that define their work.
Johnny R. Goode’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be announced in due time.
