Aidin Mathieu Obituary, – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 14-year-old boy from Goshen passed away due to injuries sustained in a collision early Saturday morning in northeastern Elkhart County. The incident occurred shortly after 4:45 a.m. at the junction of State Road 120 and County Road 35, situated to the north of Middlebury.
Eyewitnesses informed law enforcement that the boy was traveling south on County Road 35 on a 2023 Honda XR150LE dirt bike when he disregarded the stop sign at the intersection and collided with a trailer being towed by another vehicle traveling west on State Road 120. The boy was declared deceased at the scene. Although the boy was not identified in the sheriff’s office report, Middlebury Community Schools confirmed in a Facebook post that a new student at Northridge High School had tragically lost his life in an accident that morning.
The school district named the boy as Aidin Mathieu, but did not provide further details. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office informed WNDU 16 News Now that only one fatal crash had been investigated in the county within the past 48 hours. The report did not contain information about the second vehicle towing the trailer. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
