Areon Butler, Cameron Lee Burts Obituary – Authorities have confirmed that three individuals, all 19 years old, lost their lives in a shooting incident outside a nightclub in Sunflower County. More than a dozen people were injured during the tragic event. Mayor Ken Featherstone of Indianola mentioned that a large crowd had gathered around the local club on Church Street before the shooting occurred at midnight on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Areon Butler, Cameron Lee Burts, and Marquette Baites. Featherstone stated that around 16 or 17 individuals, including the three victims, were either shot directly or hit by ricochet bullets. Some of the severely injured were taken to a hospital in Jackson, while others received treatment at a local hospital in Sunflower County.
Featherstone mentioned that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, in collaboration with the Indianola police department, is collecting statements from witnesses and victims. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. Indianola, the county seat of Sunflower County, is located in the Mississippi Delta region, approximately 100 miles northwest of Jackson, with a population of around 9,000 people according to the U.S. Census records.
