INDIANOLA, MS – A devastating mass shooting on Church Street early Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of three 19-year-old males, including a recent graduate from Gentry High School. The incident occurred just after 12:50 AM, claiming the lives of Areon Butler, Cameron Lee Butts, and Marquette Baites.
Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton and the Indianola Police Department confirmed the details of the tragedy to The Enterprise-Tocsin. Butler, a member of the Class of 2024, died at the scene, while Butts and Baites, both from Greenville, were also pronounced dead.
The shooting further resulted in injuries to as many as 13 other individuals, who were hit either directly by gunfire or by ricochet bullets during the incident. The community is in shock as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this horrific event.
