The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating a devastating fatal collision that occurred early Saturday morning, July 20, 2024, on Goshen Road near Rock Elm Way. The incident has left the community reeling and authorities working tirelessly to uncover the details surrounding the tragic event.
At approximately 2:16 a.m., officers from the 6th District responded swiftly to the scene following reports of a serious two-vehicle collision. Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel also arrived promptly to assist in managing the aftermath of the crash.
According to preliminary findings from CRU detectives, the collision involved a northbound blue 2019 Kia Stinger and a southbound white 2021 Hyundai Venue, both traveling along Goshen Road near Rock Elm Way at the time of impact. The circumstances leading to the collision are under intense scrutiny as investigators piece together the sequence of events.
Tragically, the driver of the Hyundai Venue, identified as 25-year-old Yanique Tyshay Jones of Rockville, was unable to survive the impact. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Yanique was pronounced deceased upon arrival at an area hospital. The loss of such a young life has deeply affected the community, prompting an outpouring of sympathy and support for her loved ones.
The driver of the Kia Stinger sustained serious injuries in the collision and was also transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Thankfully, these injuries are reported as serious but non-life-threatening, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the sorrowful circumstances.
