Yanci Gomez Obituary, Death; – Elmer Manzanarez, 39, was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on Thursday for charges that include murder and sexual assault, as per reviewed documents by the 8 News Now Investigators. Manzanarez was initially arrested by the police in September, but details of his arrest and the case were only made public through the reporting of the 8 News Now Investigators on Friday.
On September 15, 2023, the Metro police were called to an apartment near Owens Avenue and Pecos Road in the east valley following a report of a deceased woman. The woman was later identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Yanci Gomez, the mother of Manzanarez’s children. The indictment alleges that Manzanarez strangled or beat Gomez during a sexual assault in front of their children in a shared bedroom.
Witnesses informed detectives that Manzanarez had a history of being abusive towards Gomez. On the night of Gomez’s death, one witness stated that they saw Manzanarez hitting Gomez during an argument. A child present in the home told the police that they saw Manzanarez hit Gomez and said, “Mommy’s dead.”
The documents specify that several children were present during the incident, and the child abuse charges against Manzanarez take into account the children’s presence. Another witness mentioned confronting Manzanarez after finding Gomez unresponsive on a bed. Manzanarez allegedly claimed that Gomez had fallen down.
During his police interview, Manzanarez denied any physical altercation and stated that Gomez had convulsed during intercourse. He also mentioned consuming 14 beers that day, despite usually drinking 20, and claimed he was not intoxicated.
Although the exact date of Manzanarez’s release was not clear, records indicate that a judge granted him a $100,000 bail for his Las Vegas Justice Court case. Manzanarez was eventually released with an ankle monitor and was not in custody as of Friday.
