Demeria Hollingsworth Obituary – The 12-year-old girl from Humboldt, Tennessee, is facing first-degree murder charges after authorities claim that video evidence shows her suffocating her 8-year-old cousin in a shared bunk bed. The girl, who is set to turn 13 next week, reportedly used bedding to suffocate her cousin, then cleaned up the scene and repositioned the victim’s body, according to investigators who reviewed home security footage of the incident.
The victim’s mother, Rayana Smith, identified her as Demeria Hollingsworth. She recalled Demeria as a cheerful child who excelled in school enjoyed reading, swimming, and playing outside, and was affectionate towards her younger sister. Smith mentioned that the girls spent the summer with their grandmother in Humboldt. She explained that the tragic incident stemmed from an argument over an iPhone.
Frederick Agee, District Attorney General for the 28th District in West Tennessee, stated that his office is seeking to have the child tried as an adult in Circuit Court due to the severity of the crime. The 13-year-old is facing charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Smith expressed her desire for the maximum sentence, grieving the loss of her daughter and the fact that she will never see her again.
