Family and Early Life
Matt Connor was born into a large family of nine children to John and Dolly Connor. His father, John, co-founded Connor Hunter Solicitors in Wynnum. Matt’s siblings included brothers Dan, Paul, and Chris, who also attended Iona College. Tragically, Chris passed away in the USA in 2020, while eldest sister Mary-Jane lost her battle with Motor Neurone Disease exactly a year ago.
Battle with Illness
Diagnosed with melanoma last year, Matt underwent immunotherapy that unfortunately led to severe health complications, including kidney failure. Despite his brave fight, the cancer eventually spread throughout his body, impacting his health significantly in recent months.
Achievements and Career
A talented rugby league player, Matt excelled for Iona in the Amco Shield and played front row for Wynnum-Manly A Grade in the BRL at a young age. He later shifted his focus to pharmacy studies after serving as an army pharmacist. In 1992, Matt purchased a pharmacy on Magnetic Island, where he resided until his passing.
Personal Life and Legacy
Matt married his high school sweetheart, Kitty, in 1983. They shared a life together and raised two sons, Ben and Jacob. Ben, following in his father’s spirit of achievement, pursued a career as an opera singer in Vienna.
