Greg Schindel Death – A message from our President about the demise of Greg Schindel, the Train Singer. From April 1, 1946, until July 12, 2024. The sound of a train whistle resonating down a canyon has a certain something enchanting and eerie about it. Today, may our train whistles continue to reverberate for the unforgettable legacy that the Train Singer® left us with.
When I began my summer work as a high school student thirty-two years ago, I had the pleasure of getting to know Greg Schindel. He was a joker who could always make you grin, a family guy, an artist, a train enthusiast, and a school teacher. Greg spent the summer playing for tips with the Skunk Train.
Many years later, I urged Greg to come work for us more frequently, to update his attire to its most current style, and to establish a trademark for his moniker, “Train Singer,” in order to safeguard all the hard work he had put into creating his brand. Greg created a lot of songs about the individuals he met over the years and his favorite train.
From Woopie via Northspur Station to Engineer Brooks to California Western Special! What an Adventure! Every song had a message to convey and made people smile. Train Singer was a buddy, not a worker. As my career progressed, I didn’t get to see dad as often, but when I did, he always had a joke to go along with his hugging.
As a result, today we commemorate the life of a magnificent individual who gave so much without expecting anything in return. We are grateful to his wife Donna, son Malaki, daughter Heidi, grandchildren, and whole family for enabling him to ride the rails and be a part of our family for over three decades.
Train Singer has a unique place in the hearts of Skunk Train and California Western Railroad. Howdy! What a journey! Robert Jason Pinoli CEO and President, We are aware that throughout the years, Greg touched a great number of lives. We would be happy to hear about, view, and include any recollections, pictures, or videos you may have of the Train Singer into an in memoriam. Fall services are scheduled.
