At 59 years old, Dexter was her only child. Just a short while ago, he was enjoying a vacation at Niagara Falls. However, tragedy struck when he was fatally shot during a dispute over a towed vehicle. Johnson had resided with his mother in Auburn Gresham for more than four decades and worked as a tow truck driver for a significant portion of that time. Despite the dangers associated with his profession, he cherished his job.
Known for his passion for motorcycles and travel, Johnson was also a father to three grown children and a grandfather. In a couple of weeks, the family had plans to travel to Arkansas to celebrate his grandmother’s 102nd birthday. The unexpected loss has left them grappling with mixed emotions.
The incident occurred on the 11300-block of South Lowe Avenue around 2:29 a.m. on Wednesday. Johnson was found at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Another 45-year-old man involved in the altercation was also shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at Advocate Christ Hospital.
The man’s identity has not been disclosed. According to investigators, both men exchanged gunfire during the confrontation. Eyewitnesses reported being awakened by the sound of arguing and gunshots as the tow truck was in the process of towing a vehicle. One witness recounted that the tow truck driver was attempting to carry out his duties when the car owner intervened, leading to a tragic outcome.
