Dejon Marques Heard Obituary, – The individual who was fatally shot by a law enforcement officer in La Jolla after moving towards the police with a knife has been identified, as per authorities.
On Saturday at approximately 7 a.m., authorities received numerous reports regarding an individual causing a disturbance with a knife in the 5400 block of La Jolla Blvd, according to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered a man in his twenties next to a car that was stopped in the middle of the road.
“UPON APPROACHING THE INDIVIDUAL, HE PROCEEDED TO ADVANCE TOWARDS THEM WITH A KNIFE. THE OFFICERS THEN DREW THEIR SERVICE WEAPONS AND INSTRUCTED THE INDIVIDUAL TO DROP THE WEAPON,” STATED THE POLICE.
One of the officers discharged his weapon, hitting Dejon Marques Heard, a 25-year-old from San Diego, as confirmed by authorities. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The officer who discharged his weapon was identified as Tarik Andrew, a patrol officer at SDPD’s Northern Division, who has been serving with the department for three years.
