Carlos D. Atilano Obituary – The Metro Nashville Police Department has identified the driver who was killed in a head-on collision in Antioch early Wednesday morning as 26-year-old Carlos D. Atilano. Atilano’s identity was confirmed through his fingerprints after the accident. He was driving a Toyota Camry on Bell Road when the vehicle hit the curb, overcorrected, and crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with Sgt. Trevor VonDohlen’s patrol SUV.
The incident took place at the intersection of Bell Road and Mt. View Road around 2:15 a.m. Atilano was pronounced dead at the crash site. Sgt. VonDohlen, a homicide sergeant with MNPD, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Sgt. VonDohlen, a 12-year veteran of the force, was en route to a reported suicide on Creekview Drive when the collision occurred.
