Kelsey Roberts-Gariety Obituary – An Ohio family mourns the passing of a 23-year-old woman who was shot and killed in Denver at the end of last month. The incident occurred in the vicinity of East Kentucky Avenue and South Dexter Street on the southwest side of the city. The victim was identified as Kelsey Roberts-Gariety by her family. “We never had our parents there, so we always had each other’s back. We were really close. She was close to a lot of people,” shared Roberts-Gariety’s sister, Kylie Al-Nubu’at.
“I just remember saying no because it was like impossible,” Al-Nubu’at added, holding back tears. “There’s no way that her kindhearted soul was just gone.” Upon responding to a report of a gunshot, the Denver Police discovered Roberts-Gariety deceased from a gunshot wound in an apartment near East Kentucky and South Dexter Street.
According to court documents, Roberts-Gariety’s husband returned home later and informed the authorities that there was only one individual in town who knew their address and he “had issues with him.”
The husband identified this individual as Earnest Cunningham. An arrest affidavit revealed that Cunningham was a former colleague of Roberts-Gariety’s husband who was terminated for failing to report to work.
Subsequently, Cunningham began making threatening calls to Roberts-Gariety’s husband.
The arrest affidavit further states that a witness observed a man fleeing from the scene of the shooting and captured footage of the individual driving away in a car. The license plate was linked back to Earnest Cunningham. Cunningham was apprehended by the police shortly after.
“I don’t know, it still doesn’t really feel real because the way she went out she just doesn’t deserve it out of anybody,” expressed Ratleff.
“In any other circumstance, we would have a funeral by now and we would have answers by now. And it’s just like this ongoing hurt and like questions on why and we have no idea,” Al-Nubu’at remarked.
While these sisters may never fully comprehend the reasons behind this tragedy, they are determined to continue advocating for justice on behalf of their loved one.
