Charles Murphy Death:- A fire that destroyed a 77-year-old Birmingham man’s Ensley home on Monday was a heartbreaking event. Charles Murphy was named as the victim on Tuesday by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
A person was reported missing from a house fire in the 900 block of 51st Street at 11:18 on Monday morning, according to Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. Charles Murphy and his spouse were the first to escape the fire unharmed, according to witnesses and authorities. But Murphy did come back into the house and stayed there for an unknown purpose.
Heroic Rescue Attempt
A crew of firefighters broke into the burning house and saved Murphy. He was taken to UAB Hospital immediately away and was pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m. A number of firefighters were also inspected by paramedics on the spot for potential injuries sustained during the rescue operations. The cause of the fire is still being looked into. Investigators are attempting to determine the source of the fire as well as Murphy’s motivation for returning inside the residence after initially escaping.
