The fatal early-morning shooter in downtown Charleston has been identified by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. The injuries Richard Warren, 33, of Adams Run, suffered in the Nassau Street incident proved to be fatal. The news of his demise was announced on the internet. Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to the sound of gunfire on Nassau Street, between Mary and South Streets, around 1:20 a.m.
Ongoing Investigation
The Charleston Police Department is investigating another shooting that occurred less than 12 hours later on North Romney Street. Sgt. Chris Stinson emphasized that there is currently no evidence to suggest a connection between the two incidents. Both shootings, however, appear to have stemmed from verbal altercations. Upon arrival, they discovered Richard Warren suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Charleston County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

“These senseless acts of violence are devastating to our community. It is unacceptable for conflicts to escalate to gunfire. We remain committed to combating violent crime, but we also need the collective support of those in our community to foster conflict resolution skills in our young people.
