Tyler Johnson Obituary – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that a high-speed pursuit from Wisconsin to the north suburbs of Chicago concluded in a fatal collision on Saturday afternoon. Preliminary findings from law enforcement indicate that a 32-year-old man from Salem, Wisconsin was operating a stolen Lexus GS400 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin when local police officers attempted to halt him around 4:30 p.m.
The driver evaded at a high velocity, prompting a Pleasant Prairie police officer to engage in pursuit and deploy a tire deflating device near the intersection of Kilbourne and Russell roads in unincorporated Zion. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the man continued to drive recklessly and disregarded a red light at the intersection of Kilbourne Road and Route 173 in Newport Township, resulting in a collision with a GMC Yukon.
Tragically, the driver of the Lexus lost his life in the accident, with no other occupants in the vehicle. Eight individuals in the GMC sustained injuries. A 51-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the GMC, a 30-year-old man, along with six other passengers – a 20-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, and an 8-year-old girl – all sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
The deceased driver of the Lexus has been identified as Tyler Johnson, 32, from Salem, Wisconsin. Autopsy results from the Lake County Coroner’s Office revealed that Johnson passed away due to blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities mentioned that Johnson had a revoked driver’s license, an active arrest warrant in Lake County for methamphetamine possession, and was a suspect in multiple burglaries in the region.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is conducting an investigation.
