Christopher Bernal Obituary – On the 7th of July, 2024, around 1:50pm, Troopers from the State Police barracks in Monroe, responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on State Route 9W northbound in the town of Highlands. A preliminary investigation revealed that Christopher Bernal, aged 23, was riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle northbound on SR 9W when he failed to navigate a curve in the road, causing him to veer off the road and collide with a parked 2023 GMC Acadia that was occupied in a scenic pull-off.
Bernal was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital by Town of Highlands EMS, who tried to save his life, but unfortunately, he passed away due to his injuries. The front seat passenger of the GMC was also taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
