Brandt Smith Obituary – Police have identified the man killed in last week’s crash that happened in the area of I-70 near the Robinson Place underpass in Vigo County. Police said the driver was 67-year-old Brandt Smith of Reeves, Louisiana.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office said Smith was visiting the area but lost contact with their family and was considered an overdue motorist. Before losing contact with his family, Smith mentioned he was lost and tired. That’s when the police think he accidentally turned westbound on the eastbound I-70 exit ramp at Exit 1.
Smith continued to drive the wrong way on 70 and entered a barricaded construction zone where road crews had removed a bridge section. Police believe he went past the edge of the roadway and crashed into one of the new bridge supports. Police said when his vehicle was found, he had already passed away.
