SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The alleged gunman in a Salt Lake City shooting that injured two people on the Fourth of July has been arrested, according to police.
Jose Jimenez-Mancilla, 22, was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on six counts of felony discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault.
Police said Jimenez-Mancilla got into a physical fight with two men at a Salt Lake City apartment complex near 300 West and 1700 South. During the fight, Jimenez-Mancilla allegedly fired two rounds from a gun. One of the victims reportedly then left the apartment and Jimenez-Mancilla went to tell the victim’s brother of the fight.
According to the probable cause statement, Jimenez-Mancilla and the victim’s brother then went to meet the victim where another physical fight broke out. Jimenez-Mancilla then allegedly fired “multiple rounds” from his gun. He struck the first victim three times – twice in the shoulder and once in the hip. A single round also reportedly hit the victim’s brother in the hand.
The two were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Upon being taken into custody, Jimenez-Mancilla allegedly admitted to police the gun belonged to him and that he had fired it during both fights.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
