Jonathon Diaz Obituary, – A St. Paul resident is facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s estranged husband. The incident occurred nearly a year after the husband allegedly shot the boyfriend in both legs. According to court documents filed in Ramsey County on Wednesday, the 32-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting the husband.
The criminal complaint reveals that the boyfriend was previously shot while working on a car outside a residence on York Avenue in August 2023. Although the girlfriend claimed her estranged husband shot the boyfriend out of jealousy, he was not charged due to lack of evidence. The fatal shooting of the husband took place at the same location where the boyfriend was previously shot. Witnesses identified the boyfriend as the shooter, who fled the scene on a bike. Police discovered spent casings and a handgun in the garage.
The girlfriend’s daughter and son confirmed seeing the boyfriend at the scene, where he allegedly made threatening statements. The girlfriend informed authorities that she had been separated from the victim for four years and had been in a relationship with the accused for three years. The boyfriend’s arrest took place on Tuesday, and he is currently in custody. This incident marks the 13th homicide in St. Paul this year.
