PERTH AMBOY, NJ — Authorities are actively investigating a homicide in Perth Amboy, as confirmed by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Perth Amboy Police Chief Lawrence Cattano. The investigation began following the discovery of 80-year-old Awilda Verrette, found unresponsive in her home on State Street on Saturday at about 1:12 p.m.
Detective Jeremy Harris of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Jose Rosario of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are leading the case. Initial findings suggest the incident was targeted, ruling out a random act of violence. Verrette was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding officers.
