SURRY COUNTY, VA—A tragic incident occurred early Tuesday morning on Route 10 (Colonial Trail East) near the intersection with Magnolia Circle, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. Virginia State Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which took place at approximately 4:12 a.m.
The victim, identified as 67-year-old Ahmed F. Ahmed from Surry, Virginia, was reportedly in the eastbound travel lane when he was struck by a 2015 Volkswagen Passat. According to the authorities, Ahmed was not wearing reflective clothing at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the visibility issues.
The driver of the Volkswagen Passat, who remained unharmed, was unable to avoid the collision. Emergency responders declared Ahmed dead at the scene.
As investigations continue, authorities have not yet determined all the contributing factors of the crash and have not disclosed if any charges will be filed. The incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety and visibility on local roadways.
