Shawn McDaniel Sr.,Shawn McDaniel Jr Obituary – The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified the three men killed in a mass shooting in Corryville early Monday.
Coroner’s office records list Shawn McDaniel Sr., 44, Shawn McDaniel Jr., 22, and 21-year-old Laurenz Nixon as the people killed in the shooting that also left two others injured. The coroner’s office could not confirm whether the McDaniels are father and son.
According to Cincinnati Police Capt. Mark Burns, five people were shot in the area of Highland and East University avenues. It happened around 2:50 a.m. Officers were patrolling the area when they heard multiple gunshots nearby, Burns said.
Ronald Caulton, 75, who lives nearby on Donahue Avenue, told The Enquirer that he heard “four strong blasts,” followed by the sound of another 10 shots.
Police found four male victims, one of whom was dead, Burns said. He said the three others were taken to a nearby hospital, and then another victim was brought to the hospital later. The elder McDaniel and Nixon died there, the records show.
Burns said an officer saw someone running into a home with a firearm. That person eventually came outside voluntarily and was placed in police custody. Police have yet to say whether that person is believed to be the shooter, nor have they said what led up to the violence. Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
