Kelvin Lee Plain Jr. Obituary, – Iowa authorities have named the individual responsible for shooting two police officers before being fatally shot in return on Sunday.
Waterloo police officers were sent to the 200 block of Manson Street following reports of an armed man,” as stated in a news release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
“Upon arrival in the vicinity, officers identified Kelvin Lee Plain Jr., 35, riding a bicycle close by in Sullivan Park, matching the provided description,” the release stated. “Plain attempted to escape from the officers first on the bike and then on foot through Sullivan Park. As Plain was fleeing, officers deployed a taser, causing Plain to fall to the ground. Plain then fired a handgun at both officers, hitting one officer who was still in his vehicle, and another who was shot while on foot. Both officers fired back, resulting in Plain’s death.”
The names of the officers involved have not been disclosed yet. Both officers are currently in stable condition in the hospital; one is expected to be discharged on Monday, the release added. The shooting is currently being investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, which mentioned that the incident was captured on a dash-cam of a Waterloo police vehicle.
