Oddis L. Dunbar Jr. Obituary – On June 29, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a collision involving two vehicles on Louisiana Highway 3170. The incident tragically resulted in the passing of 69-year-old Oddis L. Dunbar Jr. from Pineville. Upon initial examination, it was determined that a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by 68-year-old Donald R. Jones from Alexandria, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 3170. The Chevrolet veered across the centerlines into the eastbound lane for reasons that are currently being investigated, leading to a head-on collision with a 2023 Hyundai SUV driven by Dunbar.
Despite being properly restrained, Dunbar suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jones, who was also restrained, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Standard toxicology samples were collected and sent for analysis.
Although the exact cause of the crash is still being looked into, it is crucial to highlight that distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant factor in accidents within our state. Louisiana State Police emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant while behind the wheel, as a momentary lapse in attention can have severe and irreversible consequences.
In the year 2024, Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 31 fatal crashes, resulting in 34 fatalities.
