MOAB, Utah (ABC4) — A search is underway for two people who have been reported as overdue in the Steel Bender Off-Road trail area.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said it had received a report of an abandoned vehicle on Monday morning, June 24. It was later determined the abandoned car was associated with a man and woman who had been reported as missing.
An immediate search and rescue response involving multiple agencies was launched, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after starting the search, teams found a Utility Terrain Vehicle belonging to the missing hikers in the Steel Bender trail area.
The identities of the two missing individuals have not been released.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said the search is currently ongoing with the help of ground teams, helicopters, dogs, and other specialized equipment.
“Our top priority remains the swift and safe resolution of this situation,” the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The public is asked to avoid the Steel Bender trail area while the search is ongoing. If the public would like to help by providing food or drink for the search teams, they are asked to contact the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
