Harley-Davidson Obituary, – Eight days following the collision between a minivan and the motorcycle he was operating, a man from Commerce Township has passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported that Joshua Steven Moomaw, aged 40, was waiting to make a left turn from northbound Wixom Road onto Stratford Villa Way on his Harley-Davidson when he was rear-ended at approximately 9:15 p.m. on June 16. His 41-year-old wife, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was hospitalized for her injuries but has since been discharged. Both Moomaw and his wife were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the minivan, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not sustain any injuries, as per the sheriff’s office. The crash does not seem to have involved drugs or alcohol, the sheriff’s office mentioned. This marks the fifth fatal motorcycle accident in Oakland County in recent weeks. Local law enforcement provided the following details:
• On June 18, a 32-year-old man from Redford Township lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Grand River Avenue in Farmington Hills. He was not wearing a helmet during the collision, according to the police.
• On June 14, a 60-year-old motorcyclist from Orion Township was killed after crashing into a car that turned in front of him in Brandon Township. The motorcyclist was also not wearing a helmet. His 12-year-old grandson, who was his passenger and wearing a helmet, survived.
• On May 16, a 57-year-old man from Saginaw passed away after colliding with a car that turned in front of him in Commerce Township. He was not wearing a helmet.
• On May 1, a 66-year-old man from Orion Township lost his life when his motorcycle collided with a car in Oxford Township. It is uncertain if he was wearing a helmet, but family members informed The Oakland Press that he always wore a helmet while riding his motorcycle.
