SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man in Salt Lake City has been taken into custody after allegedly attempting to hijack a UTA TRAX train after he missed his stop on Saturday, June 22.
According to court documents, Isaiah Spendlove, 26, began yelling at the TRAX operator while beating on the door in an attempt to force the operator to drive the train backward to the stop he missed.
The TRAX operator, as well as another passenger on the train, began to yell back at Spendlove, telling him he needed to leave the train. Spendlove allegedly started “swinging his fists” at the other passenger in what police called an attempted assault.
When officers arrived on the scene, Spendlove allegedly resisted being restrained and removed from the train. Officers were reportedly able to safely restrain Spendlove using a wrap restraint and take him to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. Police reported Spendlove repeatedly refused to identify himself, only giving up his name once they reached the jail.
Spendlove was booked on several charges, including second-degree felony assault with the intent to commit bus hijack and misdemeanor assault, interfering with a police officer, and failure to disclose identity.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
