Milan Jones Obituary – A Temple University student has been accused of murdering another student in what appears to be a case of domestic violence, as stated by authorities. Law enforcement received a call about a medical emergency at approximately 4 a.m. on Saturday in the 1400 block of Willington Street, near the main campus of the college in North Philadelphia, according to the police.
Upon arrival, investigators discovered 20-year-old Milan Jones on the second floor of the residence, suffering from suspected blunt force trauma. Medical professionals pronounced her deceased at the scene. Tymir Lackey, 21, was immediately apprehended and court records reveal that he has been charged with murder, reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence.
In a message to students and staff on Sunday, university leaders conveyed that Jones, who was raised in Philadelphia, was preparing to begin her junior year in the fall and was enrolled in the nursing program within Temple’s College of Public Health.
Temple President Richard Englert, Vice President and Provost Gregory Mandel, and Public Health Dean Jennifer Ibrahim wrote, “She had a passion for helping and caring for others, and her choice to pursue a career in nursing exemplifies that. It is undeniable that she had a promising future ahead of her, which makes delivering this news particularly challenging.”
The administrators stated that Lackey has been immediately suspended by the university. For students seeking support, the Tuttleman Counseling Services website or the number 215-204-7276 are available resources, according to the message. Faculty and staff can utilize Temple’s employee assistance program or call 1-888-267-8126.
According to court documents, Lackey is being held without bail, which is customary in murder cases. His legal representation could not be determined on Sunday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.
