The incident occurred on Saturday, June 22, when a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction collided head-on with another vehicle. The victim, Tyra Small-Jackson, had to be rescued from her vehicle but succumbed to her injuries.
Two other passengers in her vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The wrong-way driver, Jordan Leah Sullivan, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is now facing charges of aggravated DUI. Small-Jackson was a highly esteemed teacher at Nichols Middle School in Canton, having been recognized as the school’s Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 academic year.
