Janet Vichique Obituary – Fortunato Barrera Jr. faces charges of murder, endangering a child, and violating a protective order, according to jail records. His bond has been set at $11,250,000.
The shooting took place on Tuesday at the 2300 block of Maple Avenue, as stated in a probable cause affidavit. Upon arrival at the scene, detectives discovered the victim, Janet Vichique, deceased in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds.
The document mentioned that the victim’s 3-year-old daughter was present in the back seat during the tragic incident. Witnesses observed the suspect, Barrera, leaving the location and he was later apprehended at the 3600 block of N. Bicentennial Blvd. During his detention, Barrera reportedly stated, “Just take me already, you know what I did.”
Surveillance footage captured Barrera parking his vehicle next to Vichique’s, exiting, and shooting her while she was seated inside. Additionally, the affidavit noted that Barrera had previously been arrested on June 6th, 2024 for stalking the same victim.
