A Burke County man was killed in a crash in Caldwell County. The deceased is 28-year-old Cody Allen Word of Morganton.
On Sunday (June 16) at approximately 9:20 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to Playmore Beach Road near U.S. 64. A 2003 BMW motorcycle was traveling north on Playmore Beach Road when the driver drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree and a fence.
The driver, Cody Allen Word, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The initial investigation does not indicate excessive speed or impairment to be contributing factors in the collision.
During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
