Isya Stanley Obituary – A gathering in Fairmount Park turned tragic on Friday night when shots were fired, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old girl and injuries to four other teenagers. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Greenland Drive, near the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. The victim, who was shot in the chest and shoulder, was rushed to Temple University Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. While her identity has not been officially released, her family has identified her as Isya Stanley, a recent graduate of Freire Charter High School.
Authorities have provided details on the other victims as well. A 14-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen, while two 15-year-old boys sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. An 18-year-old girl was also struck in the leg. Thankfully, all four victims are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries.
As of June 11, Philadelphia has witnessed a distressing number of shootings involving teenagers and children under the age of 18. According to the City Controller’s gun violence dashboard, eight young lives have been lost, and 51 others have been wounded this year alone. In comparison, on the same date in 2023, there were 13 fatalities and 73 juveniles injured.
