Independence police have identified the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this month as 20-year-old Donnie Kirkland. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. on June 5 in the Sundown Drive and Claremont Avenue area.
Authorities discovered Kirkland’s body lying in the middle of the road. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead an hour after the shooting. Kirkland was a resident of Independence.
As of now, there has been no information released regarding a suspect in custody in connection to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing as police gather details and search for leads.
